Challenge Coins
Swamp City Fitness challenge coins are underway. What better way to recognize your achievements than to earn one of our exclusive, unique challenge coins! Challenge coins are used to commemorate specific events involving personal record achievements (PR). The medals are given as awards and are exchanged with friends and associates. They could also be exchanged in recognition of visits to an organization. Our circulation program is launching in 2025. When you are on your fitness journey, we let you earn rewards along the way. Our members continue to reach for that next level of their goals. We love supporting you and offering a fun award that gives back!
What is a challenge coin and where did they come from?
A challenge coin is a small coin or medallion, bearing an organization’s insignia or emblem and carried by the organization’s members. Traditionally, they might be given to prove membership when asked and to enhance morale. They are also collected by service members and law enforcement personnel. The first instance of using a coin as a response to an actual challenge may come from the 17th century religious wars in France. Historically, challenge coins were presented by unit commanders in recognition of special achievement by a member of the unit. The Roman Empire rewarded soldiers by presenting them with coins to recognize their achievements. Challenge coins were also known as “Portrait Medals” during the Renaissance and were often used to commemorate specific events involving royalty, nobility, or other types of well-to-do individuals. The medals would be given as gifts or awards, and people also exchanged them with friends and associates. They could also be exchanged in recognition of visits to an organization.
